We have the new signs up on the building and in the windows, and have begun to renovate the new restroom.  The East wall has been painted and part of the floor scraped in preparation for new carpeting.

We will most likely have to hold some services without carpet once we tear out the wall between the 2 units.  Things will be changing, but we promise to make the new space every bit as nice as our present room, and probably even a little nicer!

I’m meeting with our landlady again today to finalize plans for the next steps in creating the new church space.  I’m available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week and next (Apr.12-14, 19-21) to aid any who will lend a hand in working on the building.  There is painting to be done, walls to be built, lights to be removed and new lighting installed, and a wall to be torn out.

And so I invite you all to take part in this aspect of building for the future!

Welcome to our first summer e-Newsletter!  We’re glad you’re interested in what’s happening at Lake Hills Community Church.  If you’re new on our mailing list, we handle all our church news via our website and our weekly bulletins handed out on Sundays.  If you have any questions or comments just post them below in the “Speak Your Mind” section.

Time Change

We have learned that “Lake time” is different than time in other places!  Accordingly, we are adjusting our Sunday morning service time to 10:00 beginning this Sunday.  We will stay on the new schedule through Labor Day, at which time we will evaluate and consider whether to permanently keep the new schedule or return to our old meeting time once summer ends.

Outlook on Outreach

On Thursday, June 3^rd, Lake Hills had a booth at the Laurie Aquatic Center’s Dive Into Summer event.  There were several hundred people in attendance.  We got to meet and provide information for lots of people.  Thank you to Cal and Bettie Hunnius for helping out.  Cathy Knapp set up a “Duck Pond” for kids to win prizes.  Check out the pics!

We also have a couple of other outreach ideas we’re praying about starting later this summer.  The first will be announced about a week from now.  We’re keeping it under wraps until then, and we’ll explain why a little later!  The second idea we’re considering is setting up, of all things, a Hot Dog stand in our parking lot!  Now remember, this is just in the idea stage.  We’re considering selling hot dogs for a dollar, or perhaps even giving them away, on days when Dollar General (next door to us) is having their big sidewalk sales.  What a great way to get to meet more people in the community and give them information and an invitation to church!

Upcoming Series

We invite you to come next Sunday for our Fathers Day message, “The Father God”.

Then our next series (which I’m really excited about) will launch on Sunday, July 4^th.  Join us as we start a 4-week conversation about “God and Country”.  We will discuss such hot topics as Socialism and the Bible, the Islamic invasion of America, separation of church and state, and the ever-increasing legal battles being conducted against faith and patriotism.  And in the midst of all this controversy, what is the church’s role?  You won’t want to miss this series!

This month’s cookout will be hosted by Bettie and Cal Hunnius on Saturday, June 26, at 5:00. All our regular and new attendees are invited.  It doesn’t matter if you’ve only come once, or even if you haven’t yet come at all–you’re invited!  A map and more details will be provided soon.

Save the Date

June 20, Fathers Day, is also collection day!  All who are filling baby bottles with money for the “Save a Baby Fundraiser Contest” should remember to turn in your bottles at the church.

We’re Growing!

Wow, we’ve had a lot happen in the past few months since deciding to relocate the church.  We have rented and extensively updated a space in Greenview where the church was re-planted on March 7, 2010.  We have had new guests visit every week since opening and we have begun to grow.  Our attendance in April was nearly double our March attendance.  We are very excited to see God at work in people’s lives, including another person who recently committed their life to Christ.

Extreme Website Makeover

We have recently re-designed our website.  I hope you enjoy it.  We are getting lots of traffic and have even had one article that has been read in 35 countries around world.  Wow – I didn’t see that coming.  (You can check out that article here.) I am thinking about offering to build websites for churches who can’t afford to pay big bucks to hire a professional web designer.  The money would be donated to the church to use toward continued promotion and outreach.

Outreach Venue

We are in the process of planning ways to use our new location for some helpful outreach in the community.  We have a great facility and location where we can offer some events and programs for youth and for area musicians.  This is a dream of mine that I keep fanning into flame at each stage of our new church.  I believe we’re at a place where we can try some new things.  There will be more about that coming soon.
